What is Parent Coaching and is it Right for You?

First, I want to assure you that seeking a parent coach does not mean you are not parenting well already. In fact, it’s just the opposite! You are doing the best you can with the tools and resources that have worked for you, but perhaps it’s time for a new perspective. Coaching allows you the time and guidance to consider how you can turn what is already working and carry it over into other areas of your life.

Ask yourself these questions…

  • Do you repeat the same strategies, but see no change in your child?
  • Are you overwhelmed and exhausted with your daily routine?
  • Are you struggling with how to manage your child’s behaviors?
  • Are you looking for more balance between work, home, and self-care?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then parent coaching is right for you!

Why Choose Me as your Parent Coach?

As a PCI Certified Parent Coach® I bring over 20 years of experience working in various settings with families and children. I grew up in New Jersey where I facilitated in-home family counseling sessions, counseled students in both elementary and high school settings, and provided community support to both parents and children ages 0–22 years.

I left the east coast and made my way to California, where I became a behavioral supervisor for early intervention and developed individualized treatment programs. I also provided parent training and support for families and their children on the Autism Spectrum.

As a school counselor, I provide social-emotional support to students in general and special education from kindergarten through 5th grade.

My love for supporting families has inspired me to become a parent coach. I pride myself on supporting parents, by providing the individualized support needed to assure everyone’s needs are met within the family.

What Parents Say After Coaching With Me

Christina’s support has been instrumental. She has helped my family and me implement various behavior strategies with both of our children. She created behavior strategies/charts for our oldest son, which provided positive reinforcement. These strategies yielded great results and our son improved his behaviors.

After I had my second child, I was having difficulty with balancing caring for my own needs in addition to the needs of my children. Christina helped me see that I could take care of my needs as well as be there for my children, allow myself to relinquish control, and let my husband carry out some of the childcare needs as well. She helped me find balance.

About a year ago, I reached my breaking point and needed to find a new approach for my son. His anxiety was getting worse, his aggression was coming back, and we were constantly butting heads. This is when I found Christina Cortese. I wasn’t sure how it was going to work, as we live in a suburb outside of Minnesota and Christina lives in California, but at my wits end, I decided to give it a try. Christina made it super easy on me as a full-time working, single parent. We established a schedule that worked around my schedule.

Christina is so knowledgeable and her love for helping kids and parents really shows. Before each session she would reach out to see what concerns I had for the week and made sure to incorporate that into our coaching session. After the coaching session, she would recap what we discussed and give suggestions when I needed them. Christina would check in between sessions to ensure I was working on the material with my son. One activity she suggested, that I loved, was a vision board. It was so fun to sit down with my son and have him detail his vision for his future. And it was really helpful for me to think about what my dream for the future is for me and my son. Christina is a professional and easy to talk to. If you need some coaching for your child(ren) or in need of parent coaching advice, Christina is your go-to.
